More Blessed

I have shown you in every way, by labouring like this that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” (Acts 20:35)

As the COVID-19 pandemic is escalating, we ponder on this portion of Scripture in this time of uncertainty. Within this portion, Paul gives his last instructions to the Ephesians as he would not see them again. He instructs the followers of Jesus to support the weak, – to look after the little lambs. (This instruction is so much different than the survival of the fittest, where everyone fights for himself and for positions.) Then Paul recalls the words of Jesus saying: it is more blessed to give than to receive. Our blessedness lies in the giving away of our time, our attention, our possessions, our finances to support and encourage His flock. Within God’s kingdom the giving away of ourselves, to tend his lambs provides us with His blessing. He who has received a little child in His name, has received Himself.
