Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner? And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.” (Luke 17:17-19)
Within this portion, Jesus was surprised at the lack of thankfulness. The Jews, being cleansed at once hurried to the priests to show themselves. This foreigner however lingered. He was the only foreigner among them, and foreigners may not be accepted by the priests. The longer he traveled with his companions, the more he felt drawn to Jesus who healed him. Then the turning point came. He turned around and went back to the One who cleansed him of his leprosy. He was not disobedient, to him, Jesus was the High Priest. He would declare it with a loud voice, worshiping God, falling face down at His feet to give his sincere thanks. This is the attitude of thankfulness that touch the heart of Christ.
