Words

No one calls for justice, Nor does any plead for truth. They trust in empty words and speak lies; They conceive evil and bring forth iniquity. They hatch vipers’ eggs and weave the spider’s web; He who eats of their eggs dies, and from that which is crushed a viper breaks out. (Isaiah 59:4-5)

Within this portion, God is surprised at the lack of truth and justice. Fictitious accusations were being gathered and spread which brought death to it’s hearer. When untruths are being crushed, and exposed for what they are, renewed anger breaks out once again. Through the whole ordeal, Christ remained silent as a lamb. Though untruths, slanders and libel may prevail, the venomous sting of falsehood kills it’s bearer in the end. The plotting of the high priest and the power of the grave did not prevail.

Israel was in such a dying state, as Moses, God’s anointed raised a bronze snake on a pole to cure those who acknowledged that they had rebelled and sinned. Some years later Christ became the blameless offering to redeem all those that acknowledge their rebellion and sin, and look expectantly to Him for their salvation.
