Words And God’S Shield

Lord, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me. Many are they who say of me, There is no help for him in God. But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. (Psalm 3:1-2)

David wrote this psalm when he was fleeing Absalom his son.

Nearly all Israel walked after Absalom as he deceitfully proposed himself as their better king.

Yet, David had a deep relationship with God that nobody could take away. In his great hour of need, David cried to God. He knew his God to be a shield against the slander of others. His God, the One that sees and who lifts up the head of those that know Him. The One that could not be deceived by Absalom’s flattering and clever words. God, who chose David and anointed him as king, could not be influenced by opinions, or judgement of people. God was with David, even-though others stated that God had left him.
