Christ’S Teaching

Then He began to teach them, saying. Blessed [spiritually prosperous, happy to be admired] are the poor in spirit [those devoid of spiritual arrogance, those who regard themselves as insignificant], for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [both now and forever]. (Matt 5:2-3)

This sentence of Christ has, throughout the ages, gripped the essence of our fallen human nature, which is pride. Deeply rooted within the heart of man, pride percolates through to our daily walk and talk. Pride is the worst adder in the Universe. Yet, through Christ’s example, He showed us the way out. As He emptied himself to dwell humbly amongst the fallen sons of man, we may find rest within Him. All strivings cease as we see Him raised up on the Cross – an eternal sacrifice crushing this viper’s head within our lives. Oh, may we realize our own insignificance! May we all acknowledge that our pride has cost the unblemished Lamb of God, His death…
