“And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. (Gen 4:3)
Thoughts for today: 27 April 2020
Within this text we read about two brothers. Cain, the eldest, decided to take of his fruit as an offering to God. Abel did the same. However there was a vast difference between them.
- Cain brought his offering; fruit from the earth, things from the earth that had been cursed by God because of sin.
- Abel on the other hand realized that sin stood between him and God and felt grieved by it. He felt compelled to bring a blood offering, the firstborn of his flock, a lamb.
God accepted Abel’s offering but rejected that from Cain.
How do we live our lives? Do we deal like Abel with the sin issue, or do we act like Cain as if there is nothing wrong. God himself produced a Lamb, his only Son, as a blood offering for our sake. Is the Blood of the Lamb doing a thorough work in your life today?
