Good Fruit

“A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it use up the ground? But he answered and said to him, Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can cut it down.” (Luke 13:6-9)

Within this text there is a tree planted; a fig tree for the sole reason to bear fruit. Yet, year by year the fig tree only bore leaves. The leaves drew the hungry with the expectancy to find something to eat. Maybe it was even a beautiful tree. Yet seeking for fruit between the leaves, there were nothing. What a disappointment after waiting for a whole season. Then at last, the righteous Owner gave the verdict to cut it down. However, the keeper pleaded for yet another year…. a year of grace. Maybe you are living in that time, a time of grace. A time that is finite and will soon end. Maybe there are some interceding for you at the moment, a parent crying for mercy from God for you. Maybe God had granted this request. However, what will the end be like, if the Owner comes again after some time and still finds no good fruit?
