And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding garment: And he said unto him, Friend, how came you in here not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matt 22:11-13)
Within this portion, the King came to observe his guests; those that took the time to come to His invitation. Observing them, he noticed something. One of the guests came but not glad in the wedding garment. This man arrived as he was. He could have put on the best he had… however, it was not good enough… God was looking for more. Likewise our own best works are like filthy rags in His sight… We need to have more; we need Jesus to clad us with His own righteousness. It is simply not enough only to except his invitation, and then live as we please.
