A Question

“Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me? I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize Me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.” Then they all forsook Him and fled. (Mark 14:48)

Within this portion we find Jesus shining His light of truth on the situation. Firstly they came to arrest him during the night, while He had been preaching in broad daylight in the temple, day after day. Secondly, they came with swords and clubs as coming to arrest a robber. Yet, He had robbed no one, it was Judas that was the robber and that was coming against Him. Yet in all this unfairness, Jesus stated that this all happened so as to fulfill the Scriptures. It was set as a sign for you and me, that Jesus was the One to come, the Saviour of the world. His willingness to fulfil Scripture, even if it meant great unfairness and His own death shine through this portion. Indeed, He was the Messiah, they had been waiting for. Yet, in His darkest hour, when He committed himself to obedience to save the human race, all his trusted friends fled. May we not do likewise!
